Monday is done!

Hi Everyone,
I hope that everyone had a nice, restful weekend and is ready to do some work!  Today we had a pretty productive day (minus the chattiness).  But altogether a great day.  We started with math and covered the way we can correctly choose a unit that is appropriate for the measurement.  Then we moved on and had our social studies test on the Government for the Grade 5s and Early Explorers for the Grade 6s.  In the afternoon, we practiced more questioning after reading the short stories in our Nelson texts and we are slowly moving on to Extending understanding questions.  Finally, we worked with our two stars and a wish and created some snow flakes.
For homework:
Math:
Gr5 - WB p. 41
Gr6 - WB p. 42

Chatty, Chatty, Chatty!

Hi Everyone,
Did you have a look at the title?  Does that sound like a great description of our class today?  I think so.  Let's ensure that we are more on the ball tomorrow.
Today, we had our math test on Chapter 1, learned about and practiced proceedural writing in the passive voice, and got our science tests back.  No homework tonight, so use this time to study for our upcoming social studies class.  I'm really happy about how excited you are to get good grades.   Let's use the free time to ensure we get the grades we want.
Finally, don't forget to bring in a toy for our toy drive!  See you tomorrow!

Gloomy Day!

Hello everyone,

Today was rainy and kind of gloomy, and unfortunately we were forced to stay inside all day. Nevertheless, as the productive and fun class we are, we found ways to make the day an enjoyable one. In the morning, we started with a math review session, followed by our math quiz. I was proud of the answers I saw walking around, while both grades were writing their tests. However, I still encourage many of you to ask questions during class time, especially when you feel you need the extra help. Asking for help is for you, and it will be important in helping you to move forward in becoming a successful academic student.
In looking back at some of the other activities that we participated in throughout the day, the grade 5s and 6s had music and then French class. Afterwards, both grades participated in language arts class and keyed in on the concept of “inferencing questions”. We were privileged to watch a clip of the movie “Pursuit of happiness” and read the book “Fly Away Home” by Eve Bunting, and in doing so we were able to associate the concept of “inferencing questions” with the movie and book. Lastly, we worked on our journals and writing skills, and I would like to encourage you all to keep up with the good writing skills I have observed. All in all, stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.

Happy Monday!

Hello class,

It is the start of a new week, and there is a lot of new learning material to look forward to. For the most part, our class is doing a good job of listening and trying to understand the new learning topics being presented. Keep up the good work.
In looking back at how we started of today, math was the first subject that we focused in on. For math, both grade 5s and 6s, looked at solving problems using explicit pattern rules and expression formulas. After our math lesson, we then moved into reviewing our science material in preparation for the tests for both grades tomorrow. Specifically, the grade 5s had reviews on several systems of the human body including the: kidneys, liver, respiratory, circulatory, and the digestive system. For the grade 6s science review, we spent a large portion of our time on “classifications”. In the afternoon, our lesson plans included grammar and learning the importance of "verbs" and “adverbs” and its function in writing sentences. In sum, a lot of material was covered and learned today, and I encourage everyone to try to spend at least 1 hour reviewing your in class work, at home. Please remember to study for you math quiz tomorrow. In addition, please remember that tomorrow is a special day for our class to show our visitors how we try on a day-to-day basis to “lead by example”. Have a good day and I will see everyone tomorrow.

It's Friday, Friday...

Hello grade 5s and grade 6s,

We have made it to the end of the week. A lot of material has been covered, and I know that I have challenged all of you to do your best in learning and retaining this information. You are all doing a great job, so keep up this good work and continue to ask questions.
Looking back at the material covered today, we started off with a math activity that helped to review this week’s math concepts. We spent considerable time learning about explicit pattern rules, expressions, variables, and so on. I encourage the class to review the chapters covered over the weekend, and generate any questions you have for next week when we return. In addition to math, some of the other material learned to today included the human anatomy (ie. the circulatory system and respiratory system) for the grade 5s, and learning about Caroleus Linneus for the grade 6s. Lastly, the grade 5s and grade 6s participated in gym, and upon returning to class, we continued with our 2 stars and a wish project. Altogether, we have been successful in our learning, but I need you all to believe that true success will begin within each and every one of you. See you all next week.

Initiative!!!

Hello everyone,

We are slowly approaching the weekend, so I would like for you all to keep up with the good work. Classroom participation amongst both grade 5 and grade 6 students have dramatically increased, and I am proud of that fact. Today we started of the day with math and reviewing “variables and expressions”. Most of our grade 5 and 6 students seem to understanding the unit well, for those students requiring extra help, please ask for assistance while you are at school. Always remember that I am here to help all of you excel in your learning.
As the day progressed, some of the other material that we learned included reviewing the governmental system for grade 5s and learning about Jacques Cartier for grade 6s. We spent a little bit of time covering “inferential questioning”, and I have observed improvements in your understanding of this section. Altogether, keep up the good work and remember to lead by example. .

Variables, Expressions, and Scientific Method

Hey Class,

Once again I would like to thank you all for a very productive day. We started of today’s learning with math and generating a better understanding for two math concepts called “variables and expressions”. For the most part, both grade 5s and 6s demonstrated good understanding for the material, but I encourage students to continue practicing these forms of questions at home. As the day progressed, we moved on to our science segment and learning the important of research, using a tool known as the “scientific method”. Lastly, we worked on our arts segment, which included drawing lines, shapes, and colors in relations to emotions created by listening to different forms of music. All in all, a lot of learning was achieved and I encourage our class to keep up the good work. Please continue to lead by example and be active participants your learning. See you all tomorrow.

Happy Parent Teacher Interviews!

Hello Class,

I am proud of how today went. Together we went over a lot of learning material and I hope that if anyone has questions they continue to ask for support from their peers and teachers. We started the day off by having the grade 6s reflect on their camping trip to Claremont. Afterwards, both the grade 5s and 6s introduced patterning using manipulatives and pattern rules to solve problems. Later on, we listened to two songs by artist Mike Tompkins, and then discussed possible song choices for our upcoming spring concert. In the afternoon, the class reviewed social studies homework and practiced several grammar exercises (ie. nouns, pronouns and adjectives). Altogether, today was a fun filled day full of learning, and I want to encourage our grade 5 and 6s to continue their successful journey in learning by participating in all of what we do.

Blog for

Hello Everyone,

I would like to thank today's class once again, on a having a very productive day filled with learning. Today we functioned well in our new mini groups. As a class we have created  a point system to award effective group members, and I do believe we have found a week to make our system work. Both our grade 5 and 6 students are learning and appreciating the benefits of good effective team building, and I would like to thank the class again for doing a great job.
Today we start started off our class with the grade 5's working on subtraction problems using decimals and our "base block system" to solve these questions. At this time, our grade 6 students had the oppertunity to complete the mid chapter review for math, while some of our grade 6 students wrote their final test for our math section. As the day progressed, we participated in self reflection exercises, and had the grade 5s create logos for their inclass mini teams, while the grade 6's worked on "wood work" art that showed reflection of themselves. In the afternoon, we worked on grammer and discussed the usage of "nouns" and "adjectives". In addtion, we spent time visiting the library, working on our rememerance day project, and discussing our upcoming trip to clairmont. Altogether, a lot was learned over the course of the day. Keep up the good work class, and continue to lead by example!
